Scrappage Scheme at SG Smith

£2000 Scrappage Allowance available on vehicles over ten years old.

Please note, the exact details and the implementation of the scheme are still being developed, however we will endeavor to keep the page up to date with any Government changes. Detailed below is a brief outline of how we understand the scheme to work.

In exchange for scrapping your old vehicle and buying a new one the Government and either VW, Audi, Chrysler or Mercedez-Benz will contribute a total of £2,000 towards your new purchase. The scheme will begin on May 18th 2009 and will be available to the first 300,000 eligible claimants or until 31st March 2010, whichever is sooner.

  • The £2000 Scrappage Scheme is available on all cars or commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes
  • To be eligible, the vehicle you scrap must have been first registered in the UK on or prior to 31st July 1999
  • The owner must be the registered keeper of the old vehicle for at least 12 continuous months prior to the new vehicle delivery date, and the vehicle must have a current MOT.
  • SG Smith will take care of everything for you, including claiming the incentive on your behalf and arranging scrapping of the vehicle.
  • The new vehicle purchase must be a car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kg and must be first registered in the UK on or after 18th May 2009.
  • The new vehicle purchase must be declared new at first registration in the UK with no former keepers. It must also be first registered with the same registered keepers details as the scrappage vehicle.
